Using Butler to help with your Centro's LED
Are you disappointed with the LED in your Centro? Doesn't show you if you missed a text/SMS message, or missed a voice mail?
Use Butler to help you out. In the Attention Grabber, select items you want to know about. Then in LED Control, set the Attn grabber to Green. Now you'll have a green LED showing if you missed an event.
Using Butler to help with your Centro's LED when charging
When at the office, I leave my Centro on the charger. The problem is, when I received an e-mail (in ChatterEmail) it turned the LED green (on older Treos, the light would quick blink green). But when the Centro is 100% charged, it too turns the LED green, so I never knew if I received a new e-mail, or if it was just the Centro charged up. Here's what I did:
- Launch Butler
- Select "Control Your LED"
- Set both "Charging" and "Charged" to "OFF *"
Now when the Centro is plugged in, even when fully charged, the LED will be red. When you receive an e-mail, it turns green. After you acknowledge the e-mail, the LED will turn back red (it may take a minute). How do you know if the Centro is fully charged? The battery icon will still change with a full charge, or look at the percentage charged in Initiate.
Using Butler's Keyguard with Scheduled apps
Some applications will run into problems if they try to run while Butler Keyguard is enabled. If you use the 'block hard keys' option in Butler, then this seems to exacerbate the problem.
Butler allows you to specify up to two applications for which it will unlock the Keyguard when they are run. Here is a list of applications which have been found to work better when allowed to unlock Butler Keyguard.
- Applications which should unlock when run
- 4cast (especially helpful for automatic forecast updates)
- NvBackup (for scheduled backups) - (NB, NVBackup will backup fine with the keyguard engaged, however the 'backup now/later dialogue' will not.)
- Applications which need to unlock if you are using 'Block Hard Keys'
- Resco Backup (especially helpful for scheduled backups)
- Snappermail
- Applications which don't need to unlock (to clarify if users have tested apps that might have expected problems)
- BackupBuddy VFS (umm it goes without saying but in you want to cancel your backup you must 1st clear the keyguard. DUH!!!)This does not work on The Centro Because the Makers of BBuddy VFS have yet to recognize the Centro as a treo Device)
