First Checks
Most problems that people have relate to a few common issues, so please check these first before more detailed troubleshooting
- Check that you have the latest version of VLC installed?
- Check that you have run the setup helper applications? (This is much more reliable than trying to perform the setup steps manually)
- Check that your phone and your computer are both connected to the same local network (sometimes the phones connect to other networks that are within reach. You can check this in wifi settings page)
- Turn off the firewall in your computer AND the firewall in your router to test if that gives you a connection
- You can disconnect your router from the internet while you do this to make sure that your computer is safe
- If you get a connection with the firewalls off, then you can turn them back on and fiddle with the settings to make sure that the connection can get through
- Make sure you quit VLC completely after making changes and restart it to test
